Wordless Wednesday: Labor’s Love
I had the opportunity–and the honor–to work with this couple while they brought their third baby into the world. I took this photograph after witnessing this moment of profound and immense love between K and J–all while K was riding out pitocin-contractions on the birth ball! With their permission, I’ve included it here.
I think we need to see more positive images of labor. Not just ones where women are screaming furiously at their partners, but ones where the love between a woman and her partner, or her friend, or her mother, or her sister becomes deeper, and more profound, and more immense.

What a beautiful picture!
I agree with you on the positive images of labour.
I think that is an amazing photo, all the more amazing considering that mama is in labour. While I wasn’t screaming in agony or hitting anyone, I definitely looked a little more, I don’t know, sweaty or something. Labour is hard work, and I don’t look my best when I’m hard at work!

@Amber – I don’t think this mom will mind me sharing that the sweaty, hard-work look came not very long after I took this picture! (She was definitely working hard here, of course, but it wasn’t the transition and pushing sort of hard work.) And while there were also many beautiful and tender moments then, we were all too busy supporting her to take a photograph!
Dude, you look hawt! Even in labor! I look like a beached, beaten whale during my labor(s). Those IV fluids had a really bad bloating effect on me.

@TFB – I don’t think she would mind me sharing here–this is my sister in the picture. And yes, she’s totally hot, laboring or not!
