Prevent your hair from falling out, how to prevent hair loss in women
Prevention is better than cure. This is a simple guide to show you the best ways to help stop your hair from falling out.
Hair loss can sometimes be a symptom of a medical condition, if you aren’t sure what’s causing your hair to fall out please consult your doctor.
Hair falling out after pregnancy
Known as Telogen Effluvium, hair loss after pregnancy is common. This condition is also caused by stressful life events such as losing a lot of weight or having major surgery. Your body is recovering from a stressful time and sometimes this is shown by thinning hair.
The best way to prevent this is by making your life as stress free as possible and avoiding any extra stress that could cause more hair loss. Generally your hair will grow back but can be treated with a thickening product, such as cortex hair products.
Quite often, hair loss can be hereditary. This is one of the most common causes of hair loss and is known as androgenetic alopecia. This gene can come from either parent and if both your parents have hair loss then it’s most likely you will suffer from the same condition.
Hair loss can be slowed down by using a scalp treatment that helps to stimulate hair growth.
A thyroid disease known as Hypothyroidism can also cause hair loss. If you have an underactive or overactive thyroid this can affect the growth of skin, hair and nails. So your hair growth could actually slow down or speed up. To fix this condition you must see a doctor who will prescribe medication to help manage the problem.
Anemia caused by iron deficiency
If you don’t have enough iron in your blood then your red blood cells can’t distribute enough oxygen around your body. This can affect your scalp and cause your hair to fall out or stop growing correctly.
To stop this from happening be sure that you’re eating a balanced diet that contains a healthy amount of iron. Hair products have been made to help thicken your hair if you’re suffering from thinning hair.
PCOS aka Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
PCOS is caused by a hormone imbalance. Suffers of this condition have more male hormones than normal as their ovaries produce too much.
As well as hair loss this condition can cause cysts on the ovaries and acne. PCOS is treated using birth control pills which help to block testosterone and balance the hormones in the body.
Over styling your hair
Constantly styling your hair and using heat from hair dryers or straighteners will damage your hair. Adding a lot of heat to your hair can actually cause it to thin and break very easily.
You should avoid using straighteners as much as possible and keep your hair dryer on a much lower setting. It’s also important to not wash it too much, you should leave at least a few days between washes otherwise your hair will lose natural oils that help keep it healthy.
