Shall I Sell My Wedding Gown?

There is a lot of debate over what to do with the wedding dress once the wedding is over. Do you keep it? Do you sell it? Could you possibly part with it? There are those that see it as the very representative of the special day – parting with the dress would be as bad as parting with the wedding rings that were exchanged – whilst others believe it is merely one part of something that led to a new life and the union of a happy couple. Bridal gowns in NJ are regularly sold to give other brides the opportunity to wear an exquisite gown that already holds so many memories of a beautiful day.

The Great Dress Debate

Expense

Most wedding dresses are expensive and can take up a large amount of the wedding day budget. A great deal of expense usually surrounds a wedding, and by selling the dress after the big day it is one way to recoup some of the money that was spent. A used wedding dress will only be purchased if it is in the best possible condition and although it is unlikely to be sold for its original value, there is some money to be made.

Storage

A wedding dress can be quite a size and places to store it can be hard to come by, especially in an attempt to protect it as much as possible. This can be a big factor in selling the garment and being able to have the space back which a gown would take up.

Never Again

It is highly unlikely that a wedding dress will ever be worn again; there are very few opportunities that call for a dress like this to be worn and it is often this that will prompt people to sell the gown. Wedding dresses are usually a once in a lifetime item that is worn and never forgotten, a second wearing of the dress would never recapture the memories from the first time around.

More Memories

For some, a wedding is a longed for day, but one that simply isn’t affordable. By selling a wedding gown, brides on a budget are able to experience wearing a stunning and expensive gown at a fraction of the original price and it can add to the many memories that have already been made in the dress.

Damage and Destruction

Storing such a gown and never wearing it or using it again can cause the material and colour to deteriorate. It is sad to see a once beautiful and vibrant gown become a shell of its former glory and have to be disposed of because of its poor condition.

There needs to be a great deal of thought put into whether or not to sell the wedding dress. It is not a decision that should be taken lightly and it is a big decision to make. The choice to sell the gown should directly relate to how you feel about it; are you attached? Was it perfect? Does it really signify the importance of the entire day? For those that are simply unable to part with the gown there is a way to keep the dress and give it a new lease of life. One of the most meaningful things to do is to turn your dress into a christening gown for your children – it means that one gown can hold a lifetime of memories.
